What Really Creates Happiness?

Some people believe that achieving happiness is the purpose of life, yet

When achieving happiness is your goal, you might pursue this in three
different ways:

1) You might pursue momentary pleasure, believing that your happiness

Or you might pursue happiness through activities such as sex, spending
or gambling.

2) If you believe that your happiness is attached to money and the
outcome of things regarding money, you might pursue control over
outcomes through spending most of your time working, as well as
accumulating and managing money.

3) If you believe that your happiness is attached to people, you might
pursue control over getting love, approval, attention, admiration, or
acknowledgement.

While momentary pleasure feels good, it is just momentary. Which

pursuit of what you believe will avoid pain and bring pleasure. The
problem is that none of these pursuits bring deep and abiding
happiness, because their affects are always momentary.

deep happiness they desire continues to elude them.

The path toward happiness starts with opening to learning about what is
most loving and compassionate toward YOURSELF. You can have all
the things that people believe will bring happiness - money, a good
relationship, a family, work you enjoy - yet if you are critical and
judgmental toward yourself instead of accepting and compassionate
with yourself, you will not feel happy.

Imagine a child who seemingly has everything - tons of toys, the best
schools, great vacations, lots of friends. But imagine that this child has
parents who ignore him or her, or who are very critical, judgmental and
controlling of him or her. This child will not be happy, no matter how
many external things he or she has.

Imagine that this child is you - the feelings within you. How are you
treating this child? How do you treat your feelings? Do you ignore your
feelings and cover them over with substance or process addictions? Are
you judgmental of yourself, constantly telling yourself that you are not
good enough, that you are inadequate in some way?

Ignoring yourself or judging yourself will always lead to unhappiness, so
matter how much you have in the external world or how loving you are
to others. Until you decide to start treating yourself the way you want
others to treat you, deep and abiding happiness will elude you. As long
as you are treating yourself the way your parents may have treated you
or themselves, you will continue to feel the emptiness and aloneness
that comes from self-abandonment.

If you want to experience true happiness, then start to pay attention to
your own feelings with a deep desire to learn about what you are doing
or not doing that is causing your pain and unhappiness. Happiness will
be the natural consequence of your willingness to take full, 100%
responsibility for your own feelings, and learn about and take action
regarding what truly brings you joy.

Cop Some ‘Tude! Gratitude, That Is…

I’m talking about gratitude, not attitude! Do you express your
gratitude enough? I know I don’t. And I don’t mean whether you
write your thank-you notes on time. Do you take some time every
day to feel fully grateful for what you receive? Think of it as
writing a thank-you note to the universe (or God, or your higher
power) for looking out for you.

Thanksgiving obviously creates the perfect opportunity to cop
some ‘tude. It’s easy to feel grateful at this time of year. So
I’m not going to talk about family holiday traditions-you can
get that out of any magazine in the supermarket checkout line.

I am going to encourage you to take a few minutes every day to
be grateful. Being grateful sets the stage for receiving more of
what you want. Being grateful also lets the universe know you
are appreciative of what comes your way-even when you feel like
you’ve worked really hard for it, and the universe didn’t really
help at all.

Sound a bit too esoteric for you? Let’s bring it down to earth.
Here are some of the ‘tude-building activities that work for me.

1. My gratitude practice includes taking time each day to write
down five things I’m grateful for that day. Some days I go over
the limit; other days two of my items are “breathing out” and
“breathing in”. I learned this practice many years ago, when I
read Simple Abundance (www.simpleabundance.com) by Sarah Ban
Breathnach. This list takes 2 minutes each day.

2. Another gratitude reinforcement comes during my meditations.
After manifesting using my virtual crystal ball, I take a minute
to express gratitude to the universe for listening to me, and
for whatever I may receive. These meditations take 5-10 minutes
a day.

3. Finally, I just found out about a great little site, where
you can light a candle in gratitude (or for whatever reason you
wish). It’s at www.gratefulness.org. The site walks you through
the process, and you get a tiny window of your candle burning on
your computer when you’re done. You can shut the window if you
want to, your candle burns for 48 hours whether you display it
or not. Lighting a candle takes another 2 minutes of my day.

“But I’ve had a horrible day (week, year, whatever)! What do I
possibly have to be grateful for?” Here are some of my gratitude
journal entries from the last few months:

A great new client. Mom’s doing well. Reading by the beach.
Early to bed. Great workshop response. My husband arrived
safely. Reconnecting with old friend. Little tulips at the end
of the road. My heat works. My daughter’s sense of humor.

See, it’s not that hard. As a recognized expert at copping an
attitude, let me tell you that copping some gratitude is much,
much easier.

Give it a try yourself. Go ahead, cop some ‘tude!

Creativity can be defined as problem identification and idea generation whilst innovation can be defined as idea selection, development and commercialisation.

There are other useful definitions in this field, for example, creativity can be defined as consisting of a number of ideas, a number of diverse ideas and a number of novel ideas.

There are distinct processes that enhance problem identification and idea generation and, similarly, distinct processes that enhance idea selection, development and commercialisation. Whilst there is no sure fire route to commercial success, these processes improve the probability that good ideas will be generated and selected and that investment in developing and commercialising those ideas will not be wasted.

Synergy of Craft and Art

The synergy of craft and art combine to produce quality creativity. The exact definition of art depends on the precise endeavour, but craft can be more universally articulated and includes:

a) Structure. Ideas are much easier to develop when they are situated within a framework.

b) Process. A coherent work process increases output and a consistently refined process consistently refines and improves the quality of output. Improves methodology, knowledge and procedure to eventually maximise performance.

c) Incremental productivity. Breaks up a larger whole into smaller, more manageable pieces. Produces more output than a “do your best” approach.

d) Prolific production. Increases the probability of quality occurring. The most valuable creations tend to be produced when the creator is being most prolific.
