Short Stacking as a Texas Holdem Strategy
Short stacking is the poker term used when a player buys in with the minimum amount. Especially if you are playing no limit Texas Holdem poker, buying in with the minimum will make your stack significantly smaller than the other players at the table. Short stacking can be used effectively as a poker strategy when people know how to best exploit their limited funds. One of the main perks of short stacking is that it takes you off of the shark radar. No one is going to spend time trying to wheedle your stack away from you when it is just a drop in the proverbial bottom. In theory, short stackers don’t control enough to matter. The problem with this strategy is that it changes as soon as you start to win. If you take a couple of the pots, all of a sudden you are no longer short stacked and your strategy fails. Short stacking does have the additional perk of rally making you think about how you use your money. It forces you to bankroll manage because you have less wiggle room in your budget. This is absolutely necessary to learn, so you should consider going short stacked if you are having trouble mastering the concept. It can be an effective strategy on this front.
