Six Sigma In The Software Industry

Six Sigma in manufacturing is completely understandable. For the same logic to apply to software products, it still has a long way to go to establish itself. However, for the moment it is safe to assume that there exist factors within the software industry that contribute to the shift that we discussed above. This also makes way for examples such as constant changing tools like hardware & software, decline in adherence to procedures, etc.

Level of CMM© At Which Six Sigma Can Be Applied

Six Sigma needs to be applied a bit differently when it comes to software service companies. For a company intending to streamline their processes, Six Sigma contributes well by way of helping to refine the mechanism.

It may not seem too practical to talk about defect-free processes so that you can begin implementation. The need here is the road map for organizations to work on defect control targets in stages. CMM level 1 and level 2 companies may find Six Sigma to be ideal to augment their framework application procedures for defect reduction. Levels above 3 will have attained the maturity levels sufficient for immediately implementing framework of measurement practices and will proceed further. At the mature levels of CMM 4 and 5, you can establish the complex metrics of ‘true’ Six Sigma to maximize leverage.

Techniques of Six Sigma for Software

As with manufacturing, the fundamental step is to begin with ‘the customer is always right’ approach. You can use a number of metrics, tools and charts to define customer specifications for critiquing and analyzing various parameters such as cost, quality and schedules at different levels.

There is no reason why Six Sigma will not go beyond cosmetic improvements and changes in the software industry. The ‘goal questioning metric’ or GQM, may be made use of in combination with other tools. The GQM technique combines well with the DMAIC model of Six Sigma. This is especially helpful, especially with Six Sigma being more focused on data- driven techniques.

However, you must keep in mind that when applying Six Sigma in your organization, it is necessary that suitability of a chosen tool or technique is established beforehand.

The Big Question

The big question as to whether Six Sigma can really be applied as successfully in the software industry as it was to manufacturing is still being debated. The real challenge is to see if it can be implemented without reinventing the wheel. There is also disagreement among leaders in the software industry about the need for Six Sigma.

One possible solution is that the proven processes of CMM, PSP and ISO can always contribute while Six Sigma can be used a complimentary tool. Six Sigma in the software industry must have caused a few eyelids to bat in its early days.

Introduction to Non-Surgical Foreskin Restoration, Tissue Expansion, How it is Accomplished

What is Foreskin Restoration - and How is it Accomplished?

Non-surgical Foreskin Restoration is the process of extending and growing penile shaft skin (and/or remaining foreskin) to aesthetically and functionally resemble a man’s first, natural foreskin. The extension and growth of new skin is absolutely possible. New skin cells are forced to grow by applying some form of tensioning / pulling device to the shaft skin. With constant and consistent application of the chosen restoration method, in other words - with tension constantly being applied to one area of skin, new skin cells grow as a result of it’s expanded (stretched) condition.

The medical profession uses a similar principle. In plastic surgery, for example, a doctor may place a balloon device under an area of skin on a patient, and slowly over a period of time inflate the balloon to expand and grow skin tissue surrounding the inserted device.

Many men come to the FRC chatroom and ask “how do I restore my foreskin?” or “How can I be growing foreskin.” Non-surgical restoration is always the most preferrable method - and provides the most natural, normal looking restored foreskin. There are however, surgical options available, although they come with risk and results are not generally very successful. Consider the time it takes you to restore non-surgically as a healing process.

Confused by all this?
(Specific methodologies can be found at the FRC Site, located at http://foreskinrestorationchat.info - a not-for-profit site)

We see new restorers at FRC all the time. They read through all the information on the net, and get overwhelmed. The primary source of concern always seems to revolve around “what method should I start using to restore?”

Regarding the method you chose to use to restore: it’s not uncommon to try two or three different methods or/and devices (commercial or not) before a foreskin restorer (”FR”) finds the method that works best for them in:

- Comfort
- Practicality of use
- Ease of fitting method/device into lifestyle
- Ability to tolerate prolonged consistent use

Many devices to restore foreskin are simply impossible to wear to bed, for example. So spend some time examining comparison charts (easy to find out there online!) so that you can decide what method you will try first.

NOTE: Most beginners start with the “T-Tape” method as it is the simplest to make at home, for virtually no cost, and is an effective tried and tested method of restoring your foreskin. But you may not like having to use tapes… if that’s the case then you must resort to investigating tapeless non-surgical “tuggers”.

Depending on what method you decide to use to start growing your foreskin, you should check in the FRC Link Directory in the “specific methods of restoration” section to search for the specific instruction sets for the method you have chosen, or if you have purchased a commercial device, be sure to consult the manufacturer’s website.

So being new to foreskin restoration doesn’t have to be complicated! Simply: research the methods comparison chart, decide on which method may suit your lifestyle/speed of growth desired/ease of use/discretionary needs, etc. Then go to a directory and search for the specific method of restoration you have chosen. If you cannot locate your particular method’s instruction guides, then simply do a ’scrub the web search for the method or device you have chosen.

Read and study all the postings, diaries and materials you can online written by restorers who are using the same method as you. You can never learn enough about this delicate process, and the more you know about what you’re doing - exactly - the less likely you are to fail in your pursuit of a restored foreskin!

Website Design For Small Businesses

There are many different website design companies, offering different facilities such as flash design, however what should a small business look for when seeking an internet prescence?

When choosing which company you would like to build your website, there are many factors which you need to take into consideration.

Firstly how much is the website going to cost to build and host. We all have different budgets, however there are some very good deals to get, if you are willing to search around.

When choosing a company it is important to look at their portfolio, this will give you a good insight into the type of work they do.

Most web desgn firms will offer additional services such as optimisation, website promotion and may also submit your website to the search engines.

For me the website they have created for you should be fully optimised anyway and I would also expect the web design firm should submit the site to the search engines as a matter of course. It is always worth asking to make sure.

It is always worth asking the company to add a link to your website, preferably from their homepage, as the more backward links you have, the higher page rank you will eventually obtain. The higher the page rank, the more visitors you are likely to obtain.

If you want to promote the website even further, google adwords is a favourite of mine. This is where you pay per click to your website and your advert is likely to appear in the first or second page of the results, on the right hand side.

You can also write articles, like the one I am here. This will potentially obtain you even more additional links and visitors.

These are the websites I advise you to submit your articles to:

New Year’s Resolutions for the BackCountry

The New Year has begun and you probably have a few New Year’s Resolutions under way. You’ll lose weight, lose a bad habit, add a good habit or even mend an old fence. But do you have any resolutions for the backcountry? Are you ready to make this year your best backcountry year? I’m ready. Here are a few of my backcountry New Year’s Resolutions; please adopt a couple of these for yourself. If you do, 2005 will be your best outdoor year yet.

First off, I resolve to spend more time in the backcountry. No matter how much time I spend hiking or camping, it never seems to be enough. So this year I will try to get my fill of the outdoors. Of course, I said this last year too but failed to get enough.

Next I resolve to upgrade my critical gear. Some things are more comfortable the longer you own them, but this isn’t good practice for critical backcountry gear. For example, it’s been a few years since I upgraded my first-aid kit or my hiking boots or my sunglasses. These items become a liability if they are not properly maintained. I’ve let that slip. I’ll also take a long look at my binoculars and my camping kitchen, especially my stove. Taking care of your gear will ensure its ability to take care of you when you need it most.

While we’re discussing gear, let’s keep going with another resolution. I resolve to learn how to use all of my gear. I’ve been carrying a magnesium stick for fire starting for about 5 years. I don’t think I know how to use it. I’m going to learn. I need to understand more about my GPS receiver (Garmin eTrex Vista). I use about five percent of its capabilities and this is only because I haven’t taken the time to learn. That changes this year.

I also resolve to learn a new backcountry skill. I haven’t decide what skill to learn but it will be something I’ve never done before. I’ve never taken the time to learn how to rock climb. Perhaps that’s the one, or maybe kayaking. I’ve never collected water using a solar still. That sounds interesting too. Maybe you need to learn CPR or how to read a map or tie a variety of knots. This is the year to fill in the knowledge gaps.

Finally, I resolve to bring someone new into the backcountry this year. When I see the perfect sunset or a herd of antelope, the next thought I have is “I wish so-and-so was here to see this!” So this year, I’m going to share the awe of our backcountry with someone brand new to the outdoors. By sticking to these New Year’s Resolutions, I will have a great year in our backcountry. I hope to see you there!

Closing Techniques to Make You More Money

Closing skills will be a great persuasive tool to get under your belt, and the sooner you do so the better. Remember, as the salespersonwhether you’re selling a product or trying to get your teenager to understand your point of viewyou are in an advisory role. You are your prospect’s advocate. The more you can operate in her/his best interest, the more s/he will sense this and agree to your input. The closing skills you have learned in this chapter will help you to persuade more effectively. Now, knowing the process, you will understand what is happening each step of the way and you will intuitively recognize where to guide your prospect. When you get these skills down, you will be pleasantly surprised that effective persuasion is an easy, fun and natural process.

In the beginning, you will experience moments of awkwardness when you forget exactly what to say or do. There will also be times when your prospects will throw you for a loop and you won’t remember how to respond. When this happens, don’t be too hard on yourself. As time goes on, you’ll experience a natural learning curve. Just make note of areas you’d like to strengthen and work on them along the way. This kind of conscientious attention will soon help you hone and polish your selling abilities. After every sales attempt, take the time to analyze the situation. What did you do well? What could you have done better?

1. Direct closeSimply ask for the sale. “Shall we get the process going for you?” “Sounds like a great fit! Are you ready to move forward?” “Let’s get the ball rolling, OK?”

2. Assumption closeRather than ask if your prospect wants to move forward or not, assume the sale and give her/him a choice of one option or another. This closing technique solidifies the sale. For example, “Would you like the blue or the green?” “Do you want it delivered, or will you be picking it up?” “Will that be cash or charge?”

3. Take-away closeWhen your prospect hesitates, say, “Just a minutelet me make sure we have this in your size.” “Let me see if we have this item in stock.” “Let me check with my manager.” “This product is not appropriate for you.” Closing strategies like these create the impulse to move ahead with the purchase so your prospects don’t forfeit their opportunity.

4. Summary closeRestate the list of benefits your prospects have cited as important to them and list them in order of priority. This closing strategy confirms and validates in your prospect’s mind all the valid reasons for the purchase. It also shows your prospect that you have been attentive and understand her/his needs.

5. Puppy-dog closeLet your prospects touch, taste, feel and experience the product or service as much as possible. Put them in the actual situation, either literally or through helping them create a vivid imaginary experience. This closing strategy helps the prospect become attached.

6. Pro-con closeWalk the prospect through the thinking process. On a piece of paper, draw a line down the middle and write down factors that help your prospects compare and contrast how many more pros your product has than cons. This closing strategy is excellent for analytical personalities.

7. Order-sheet closeFill in the order sheet from the start of the conversation. This closing strategy reinforces a subconscious commitment on your prospects’ part. If they hesitate, explain that the form just helps you get all the details. In completing the form, be clear on what your prospects are looking for. Assure them that if they aren’t ready to make a decision, the order form will not be processed.

8. The relevant-story closePeople think in terms of stories. Relate to your prospects the experience of another client in a similar situation who moved forward and was very happy with her/his decision. This closing strategy also works in the reverse: someone who did not purchase and later regretted it.

9. Ascending closePose a series of questions to your prospects that will all elicit a “yes” response and lead to the point of purchase as the obvious step to take. This closing strategy reinforces subconscious affirmation of the product’s benefits and ability to meet your prospects’ needs. “Yeses” increase desire, while “nos” decrease desire.

10. Reduce-to-the-ridiculous closeBreak down your product’s costs into minute units: “For a mere 22 cents a day, you can enjoy the benefits of our product.” “You can change your life by investing only 50 cents a day.”

11. Real-reason closeAfter you have tried everything, thank your prospects for their time. They will then sense that the exchange is ending, so their resistance will subside. Ask your prospect something like this: “Mr. Smith, I tried to present the information the best I knew how. What is the real reason you did not buy today?” After receiving an answer, see if you can address the concern and re-close.

Last but not least, remember that in this process, everyone wins. Salespeople are what make the world turn. You will often be the one who nudges a person just enough so that s/he’ll take action. There are countless things that would remain undone if it were not for a sales rep’s guidance and instruction. In the end, your prospect is happy because you gave her/him the courage to act, and you’re happy because you know you’ve made a difference.

Pushing Traffic From Content Sites To Sales Sites

One of the most effective methods of getting traffic to a sales page is very well-known within Adsense circles (used to send traffic to Adwords advertisers through the Adsense program), but not as well known for traffic generation directly to sales letters.

That method is the content site. There are literally thousands of people making a living online by simply creating content sites, placing Google Adsense code on those content sites and collecting a check from Google every month.

There are literally thousands of others who have sales pages selling products and services who have never created a content site and pay for their traffic through the Google Adwords program. Much of that traffic is coming from those who are creating the content sites and placing Google Adsense code on their pages.

Isn’t that interesting? If you have a sales page selling a product or service; how much could you save by cutting Google out of the loop? A lot! If you have been creating content sites and depending on Google for a paycheck, how much more could you earn if you sent that traffic to a site selling an information product of your own? A lot!

There is even more money to be gained with this strategy then you might first imagine. At first, you might be tempted to think that the only money being left on the table is the money going to Google for providing the Adwords and Adsense programs. Nothing could be further from the truth. If that was the only money involved, then the percentages that Google keeps are very small… their service is well worth that price.

But it’s not! That money is only the start. Let’s consider the following facts to see that we can actually earn a multiple of whatever you are currently earning from your Adsense check or from your product site if you cut Google out of the loop.

1. The Adsense algorithm isn’t perfect. It often shows ads that aren’t very relevant. If you cut Google out of the loop, you can make your content site to sales page site traffic 100% relevant 100% of the time.

2. Adsense publishers often only get 0.5%-15% click through rates on any Adsense ad due to a number of factors. The method I will show you in this article will deliver 25% of the hotest buyers from your content site to your traffic site continually.

3. Adsense is currently a negative ranking factor on all three major search engines (see RankingFactors.com for more information on that). That means that by running Adsense on your content sites, they are slowly losing search engine traffic month after month. By removing the Adsense and sending that traffic directly to a product site, you will retain your search engine traffic.

4. Many have reported getting banned by the Google Adsense program. You came to the Internet to make money because you wanted more control and freedom over your life. By getting a large percentage of your income from a single company (Google), you are sabotaging your efforts. You are at the mercy of Google just like you were/are at the mercy of any employer.

5. If you are selling a product using Adwords traffic, you also are at the mercy of Google and bidding wars. You must continually improve your conversion ratio or the ongoing bidding wars will eventually eat up your profit. Google (or Overture or any other bid PPC system) is slowly allowing your competitors to either receive more traffic while you receive less… or causing you to pay them more and more of your profit every month as you are forced to raise your bids to continue to receive traffic.

Wouldn’tyou rather generate your own traffic and not be held hostage to bidding wars?

So we are agreed that you want to cut Google out of the loop whether you are a content site creator or the seller of a product or service; right? How?

Well, first of all you will nead to learn the skills of the other side. They aren’t difficult whichever side of the fence you are on. If you are a content site creator, you can pick up InfoProdCreation.com and have your own product 35 hours from now with 5 hours of work. If you are a seller of a product or service, you already have the skills to create content sites. Just write articles instead of sales pages and give information instead of trying to sell. Make it a multi-page site instead of a single page sales letter.

And I’m about to give you the secret to traffic delivery from a content site to a traffic site. It’s very simple. Create a home page with only the following elements:

1. A very short 2 paragraph, 3-5 sentence description o your product or service (no selling here).

2. A large (size 6) link that says either “Enter Site” or “Enter Here”. This link leads to your product site.

3. Three smaller links (size 2) on a single line below the above link that lead to the rest of your content site. They can say “Widget Articles”, “Widget Reviews”, “Widget Forum” or whatever types of content you have on your content site… about widgets in this case.

You will find that about 50% of the traffic on a content site eventually ends up at the home page. You will find that about 50% of those that end up at the home page will choose to click the “Enter Site” or “Enter Here” link. You will find that those 25% of the content site visitors (50% of 50%) will be fairly pre-qualified to read your offer. In many, many split tests, this traffic has out-performed Google Adwords traffic.

Have fun and please leave a comment and let me know how much more money you are making with this strategy. I would love to hear from you.

Free Quick and Easy Money Saving Tips - Part 1

With the high cost of gasoline and the amount of money needed to lead a comfortable life slowly increasing many consumers may be worried about how to make ends meet. Fortunately there are lots of ways to save money in a variety of areas. Using any of the 5 tips outlined below will leave a little something extra in your bank account at the end of month and eventually could influence the quality of lifestyle you lead.

Tip Number 1 - If you want to find out whether or not your home is wasting any of your money you can have a home energy audit done. This simple procedure can identify ways to save up to hundreds of dollars a year on home heating (and air conditioning). In some cases your utility company will conduct an audit for free.

Tip Number 2 - In many cases your utility bill can be adjusted in your favor simply by performing your regular chores at a different time of the day. Ask your utility company if they offer discount rates during non-peak usage hours. If they do modify your current routine or schedule in order to take advantage of lower rates. For instance instead of doing laundry during the day wash your clothes at night after 9:00 pm if your electrical company offers cheaper rates at that time.

Tip Number 3 - Your phone bill is another easy target when it comes to looking for ways to save money. Once a year, review your phone bills for the previous three months to see what local, local toll, long distance, and international calls you normally make. Write these figures down and then call several phone companies, which provide service in your area. Using the phone usage amounts you previously wrote down compare what these other providers offer in order to find the cheapest calling plan that meets your needs.

Another popular money saving alternative is a bundled package. A bundled package offers local, local toll and long distance, and possibly other services at a better rate then you would normally pay separately. Be sure to also check your phone bill to see if you have optional calling features or additional services, such as inside wire maintenance, that you don’t need. Every non-essential option you drop could save you $30 or more each year.

Tip Number 4 - When making your phone rate comparison as outlined in tip number 3 make a mental note to identify if you make very few toll or long distance calls. If so then avoid calling plans with monthly fees or minimums. Another option would be to disconnect your phone service altogether and use dial around services such as 10-10 numbers or prepaid phone cards for your calls. When shopping for dial around service, look for fees, call minimum, and per minute rates. Treat prepaid cards as cash and find out if there is an expiration date.

Tip Number 5 - If you make a large amount of your phone calls away from your home make sure to shop around to find the best deal on cell phones and calling cards. Make sure to compare per minute rates and surcharges for cell phones, prepaid phone cards, and calling card plans to find how to save the most money. Cell phone plans offer so many options that failure to compare and find the best one that closely matches your calling patterns is like throwing money down the toilet.

These 5 quick tips could easily save you several hundred dollars a year, which you could put to better use in a savings program or to pay off higher interest loans and other bills.

Frightfully Fun Ideas for Halloween Decorating

Halloween is now the second most decorated holiday after
Christmas (according to dollars spent on decorating items). With
decorations ranging from the bizarre and frightening to cute and
whimsical, you can find many ways to express your inner goblin
this year. Here are some easy decorating ideas:

1) Put miniature pumpkins and gourds in a large bowl or vase as
a centerpiece or accent.

2) Casually scatter (that’s decorating jargon for very carefully
arrange but don’t make it look like you did) small pie pumpkins,
miniature pumpkins and gourds, and fall leaves on a mantle or
table for a festive look.

3) Use a pumpkin as a vase for a fall flower arrangement. Use a
smaller bowl or vase inside or just put them in the pumpkin
depending how long you want the flowers to last. Be sure to
scale your arrangement to the size of the pumpkin. In other
words, for a big pumpkin, use lots of flowers with long stems
and big blooms.

4) Drape spider webbing around a mirror and stick small spiders
or bats in it. (And if you have the secret to actually make the
webbing stay and separate right, let me know.)

5) Get an inexpensive fog machine and liquid to really set a
scary scene. But beware … the fog will trip off your fire
alarms if you use it inside.

Home Equity Loan to Pay Credit Card Debt, Bad Idea!

I couldn’t help but notice there have been a few articles circulating around espousing the merits of taking a home equity loan out to pay off your high interest credit card debt or other types of unsecured debt. Did you look to see that they are written by mortgage brokers?

Here is my problem with consumers taking out these types of loans. One, they are attempting to borrow their way out of debt, which is impossible and overall, just a terrible idea. Secondly, they are borrowing from what is essentially the savings account of their home equity. For most people, this is their single biggest investment and financial asset. So, this loan to pay off unsecured debt is secured by the roof over their heads which costs more each month when a loan is taken out against it.

Let’s look at a worst case scenario that is all too common. It might help you if you envision it before taking out one of these types of loans. You get a bigger house payment with the borrowed money, your credit cards get paid off but you don’t cut them up. Six months to a year later, you have them maxed out again but now you get laid off. The cards may never be paid and you have all the credit problems associated with being unable to pay them along with a higher mortgage payment. If you can’t make the payment on it, you are in more danger of losing your home than you were before you took it out. But most tragically, you have nothing to show for the thousands more you now owe on your home. Thousands you may have spent years paying down from the original debt.

Even in the best case scenario, you are now years longer away from paying the house off and if you pay off the cards and cut them up, you have less equity in your home in exchange for items you bought with high interest credit cards. In my opinion, it is a bad trade and only the credit card companies and the companies that originate the home equity loans win. You get stuck with a higher house payment, less money in your equity “savings account” and unsecured creditors get paid with funds taken from your most important asset. What do you really have to show for borrowing more money to pay off money you effectively borrowed at 18% to 29%?

What is the alternative? Negotiate with the credit card companies; that’s what! There are ways to make the creditors and collections agencies stop harassing you instantly and in some cases they are trying to collect a debt from you that you no longer owe. Remember, you have the one thing they want: MONEY. And even if you don’t have much or any, you still can get them to lower the interest rate, maybe even to 0% or knock off the late fees and get the debt to a manageable level. In addition, you have the ability to dictate your terms to them!

If you listen to the collectors, they will have you terrified into thinking the only options are for you to get a loan to pay them or to declare bankruptcy because they will have you convinced they will automatically get a judgment against you and ruin your credit. While a judgment certainly is a possibility and I don’t take the threat of it lightly, it must be done through the courts and you do have options to stop a judgment. When you can’t make your house payments it is much harder to stop a foreclosure. Additionally, your credit can be addressed with the credit reporting agencies and is not necessarily going to cause you problems for seven years as they would have you believe.

So, take the time to think through all the ramifications of a home equity loan to pay off credit cards and go to the trouble to educate yourself on some of your rights along with the protections offered to consumers through federal laws and statutes. You can get out from under the crushing load of credit card debt with a fresh start, without risking your home.

Believe this! You can overcome or solve or successfully live with any problem you will ever have to face including credit card debt. If you are committed to making a plan, setting some goals, working your plan, and doing the things that are proven to work, you will end your credit card nightmare without worrying about a foreclosure nightmare.
