Overcoming Adversities and Becoming a Leader: The Larry Pino Story

This groundbreaking leadership research by has received extensive endorsements and enthusiastic reviews from well-known prominent business, political, and academic leaders who either participated in the study or reviewed the research findings. You will discover the proven success habits and secrets of people who, in spite of difficult or life threatening challenges shaped their own destiny to become successful, effective leaders. The full results of this research will be presented in the upcoming book by Dr. Howard Edward Haller titled “Leadership: View from the Shoulders of Giants.”

The nine initial prominent successful leaders who overcame adversity that were interviewed included: Dr. Tony Bonanzino, U.S. Senator Orrin Hatch, Monzer Hourani, U.S. Senator Daniel Inouye, Dr. John Malone, Larry Pino, U.S. Army Major General Sid Shachnow, Dr. Blenda Wilson, and Zig Ziglar.

The data from the above nine research participants was materially augmented by seven other successful leaders who overcame adversity including: Jack Canfield, William Draper III, Mark Victor Hansen, J. Terrence Lanni, Angelo Mozilo, Dr. Nido Qubein, and Dr. John Sperling.

Additionally, five internationally known and respected leadership scholars offered their reviews of the leadership research findings including: Dr. Ken Blanchard, Jim Kouzes, Dr. John Kotter, Dr. Paul Stoltz, and Dr. Meg Wheatley.

This is a short biography of one of the principal participants who generously contributed their time and insight for this important research into the phenomenon of how prominent successful leaders overcome adversity and obstacles. This is Larry Pino’s story:

Larry Pino “grew up moving every three years” because his “father was in the [U.S.] Air Force.” In 1973 he graduated from University of Notre Dame; he then received his J.D. from New York University Law School in 1976. After becoming a young lawyer, he “struggled to build his law practice for several years.”

One of the first adversity or challenge in his adult life “was the complete failure of my first and only campaign to run for political office”:

“I probably could write the book on how not to run a successful campaign, because I made every mistake under the sun. During the course of that campaign, that if I had just simply stayed home and never met a soul, I would have gotten more votes than if I had actually actively campaigned, which I did, for four months.”

He went further to say, “As a matter of fact, the write-in candidate would have done a better job than I did at getting votes out.” He “suffered a terrible loss beyond the defeat at the polls.”

Next, Pino “tried several business ventures.” One of the early businesses in which “I swung hard was when I created was a firm called ‘Crepes to Go.’” Of that venture, Pino said, “I probably made every mistake under the sun, and it turned out to be an absolute disaster, the only business that I ever really, just totally botched, from beginning to end.” Larry then added “Now, out of that emerged a mess, emerged lawsuits, emerged a failure, I didn’t declare bankruptcy, but I lost a ton of money, hard feelings, broken friendships, just a whole bunch of stuff.”

Larry “settled down to focus on building [his] law practice.” Once he “had accumulated some money practicing law and had been very successful selling other people’s seminars,” Pino “started another business selling my own seminar, which unfortunately failed and wiped me out financially.” Out of desperation Pino “turned to the new format of ‘infomercials’ as [his] primary advertising method.” Pino said, “This strategic change in marketing [or advertising] materially turned this business around, creating a profitable company.”

In 2002, Pino merged his American Cash Flow seminar business with several infomercial and seminar-related businesses to create Dynetech Corporation. He described, “The combined firm I bought had about $8 million in annual sales.” Pino, as Chairman and CEO, said back in 2004 that he had built “Dynetech Corporation into a strong and vibrant enterprise development and management firm, which is a process provider, with over $175,000,000 in annual sales.” Dynetech is a growing and successful company.

Larry has successfully overcome various obstacles and “as an entrepreneur has started or managed more than 45 successful businesses.” In 2004, “Inc. magazine named his firm the 71st fastest growing privately held firm on their Inc. 500 list.” He is married to Janet Horvath-Pino and they have two sons and a young daughter.

The Bushkrieg: Stop the NeoCon Assault on the Rights of Americans - Ratify the ERA Now!

In the wake of the Alito confirmation the Left is in shambles, unfocused, unbalanced, and unable to act. They are not alone. As Alito takes up the cause of Presidential Privileges he will at the same time move against the painfully established rights of women, never confirmed by the ratification of the ERA.

Large sections of those who identify themselves as republican or libertarian or independent are living through a deer in the headlights moment; they know that the executive mandate now poised like a sovereign anointing over the head of George W. Bush is the last thing they want. But their tools for organizing political protest, the Republican Party and the Libertarian Party, are lost to them, swallowed up by the NeoCons who so suavely converted their labor and lives to cold hard cash in NeoCon pockets. NeoCons are no more Republican than they are Democrats.

The ‘game’ of politics has turned into a reality as frightening as Godzilla arising from the Hudson River to eat New York.

That is the bad news. The good news is that the means are within our grasp to drive a wedge in the machinery of tyranny now poised to roll over the rights and lives of Americans. It is time to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment and to get serious about a common understanding of our rights, where they originate and who has them.

That will surprise most people in the republican-libertarian camp. It surprised me when I realized three years ago I had been sold a bill of goods by my own movement. I had spent all of my life as a libertarian and a republican. I had been told that the ERA was about privileges for women, in effect, about entitlements. Wrong. It is about nothing more than recognizing for women the original package of rights envisioned by our founders for everyone.
When, after many generations of struggle women were unable to secure the passage of the Equal Rights Amendment most women settled for privileges and hoped it would work. They were wrong to have done that. Never settle when it is your rights that are at issue.

Ironically, it was Republican women and the Republican Party who had originally championed the battle for rights for women as an extension of their right to vote.

That long history had forged the largest political organization in the world, and arguably the most effective for most of its history, the National Federation of Republican Women. In 1980, when the ERA was struck from the platform of the Republican Party a generation of women who had poured their lives into the Republican Party went through the same deer in the headlights moment now being experienced by so many non-NeoCon libertarian-republicans. In one moment they had been betrayed, losing their political home and the investment of their time and money made over long life times.

That was one in a series of actions that converted the Republican Party into the NeoCon tool it is today.

The NeoCons are a minority, a small powerful minority, we need to remember that.

96% of all Americans from all ethnic groups, both genders, and all parts of the country have already affirmed in their hearts equality for all and the equality of women under law. (see link at ERACampaign.net, Newlstter No. 6)

Most us want to do the right thing. We have been divided and confused by a highly sophisticated campaign of disinformation designed and implemented by those we know now as NeoCons.

The mission statement of America has always been clear. Our rights are not granted by government; they preexist any government we choose and cannot be altered. But instead of securing those rights to everyone our Founders made a profound mistake. All too human, they failed to sunset slavery, leaving blacks in servitude. They failed to secure to women their right to control their own lives and property.

It was a failure that has haunted us ever since.
That failure is the basis of the conversion of all rights to privileges to be granted or withheld by government. This is why libertarian-republicans should sit up and take notice.

If our Constitution affirms the original Mission Statement then we have ground on which to stand and reverse the conversion of basic rights to privileges controlled by government. And by so doing a common ground will have been created for cooperation, right and left, so that the unceasing attrition of our liberties can be opposed successfully.

It is the right thing to do, and it is time for Progressives, Democratic moderates, and Liberals to deliver. Women have been the heart and power of the Democratic Party for generations. That party has failed over and over again when it had the control of state legislatures and the Congress to secure to women their proper rights under the Constitution.

They, too, preferred to grant privileges instead of the absolute security of rights. It is time to put aside other issues and do what should have been done generations ago. The leadership of the Democratic Party has ignored and compromised away the essential acknowledgment of rights for women that would have provided exactly the protection we now so desperately need.

But it is not too late.

The ERA today stands just three states short of ratification. There is no time limit on the need for the amendment; securing those rights are as relevant today as they were in 1776. Active campaigns exist in most of those states and together the non-NeoCon segments of the republican-libertarian wing of American politics and the Left possess enough clout and money to do the job if they choose to do so.

Women from all parties and persuasions should keep watch.

The outline of the campaign is simple.

We need a website to apply to the legislators in each of the unratified states the scrutiny and encouragement they need to ensure ratification. We need money to lobby them. We need to communicate and to network, watching for the ugly tactics that will come from the NeoCon camps.

The NeoCons think they have won. They set up this scenario in 1980 with the removal of the ERA from the Republican Platform. They set out Phyllis Schlafly to tell women that the ERA would diminish their womanhood. Today the idea promoted by Schlafly that women had a ‘right’ in the “Christian tradition of chivalry to be supported and protected by men” sounds like text from a harlequin romance.

Women dying for their country in Iraq, raped while serving there, or left homeless by no-fault divorce law understand the reality that Schlafly, who profited so richly from her work, was really selling.

Allowing government to convert rights to privileges is making slaves of all of us.

Business and Professional Women, a major leader in the earlier efforts for the ERA, is once again putting ERA high on its action priority list. Now, every day, women are working and organizing.

It is time for all of us to come together, right, left, libertarian and independent.

If freedom is not for everyone then none of us are truly free.

With the ERA in place Alito can could still damage our freedoms, but the ERA will built a buttress against the predators he represents.

Ratify now.

Fort Smith Web Design Experiment

I’ve spent years in the small town working with businesses of
all different kinds. One thing that most small towns have in
common is complete invisiblity on the web. Even though most
people use the internet in small towns for various things,
businesses don’t tap into that market properly. They don’t hire
professionals to create and market there company, they just hope
people find it. We have are starting an experiment in Fort Smith
Arkansas to see if we can change this trend within one year, and
without companies having to spend hundreds of thousands of
dollars. By linking business together that are from similar
communities and have similar needs, and encouraging business
owners to write blogs about or at least frequently update web
pages with information about there business. If we can improve
our towns visability to search engines withing the next few
months then we plan to use the same method in other small towns
around the country. We want the internet to reflect our town
when you search for it, not just go to spam and governement
sites. Anyone who wants to recieve help in becoming a part of
this project is welcome to email us at

Acne Causes - External and Internal Causes

Acne causes are multifactorial. The exact cause of acne has never been pinpointed, and it is believed that several interrelated factors can cause acne. Perhaps it is because we often are unable to determine the root cause of acne in individuals that the statistics of this skin disease is so shocking.

The causes of adult acne and causes of cystic acne are particulary difficult to determine.

17 million people in America alone have acne.
If you are between 12 and 25, you are among the 85% of people who have acne.
25% of men and 50% of women get acne during their adult lives.

The following are some of the external and internal factors that have been linked to acne in some way.

External Contributors to Acne

Makeup and skin care products

Comedogenic skin care products can cause irritation or make you break out. These include any products that clog oil ducts. Look for non-comedogenic or non-acnegenic products, but be aware these products can still make you break out.

Occupation

Depending on where you work, it is possible that your work environment can cause acne. Such environments include manufacturing or construction facilities where you may come in contact with chemicals or polluting agents that cling to the skin.

Too much sun

Evidence shows that another that exposure to sun rays is also one of many acne causes. This can even cause acne a few months after exposure.

Climate

Humidity can cause moisture in follicle cells to swell up. On the flip side, dry air can create thick sebum inside follicle cells. Both extremes can ultimately cause acne.

Picking and squeezing pimples

Touching your face or using your fingers to pick or squeeze pimples is one of the simpler acne causes that are more from habit. Picking pushes bacteria deeper into the skin cells or spread the bacteria already beneath the surface of the skin.

Sweat

Sweat trapped in by your clothing creates an ideal breeding ground for bacteria. Friction caused by leaning on or rubbing the skin or the pressure of bike helmets, backpacks, or tight collars can contribute to or worsen acne.

Internal Contributors to Acne

Bacteria

Bacteria that typically live on the skin are a contributor to acne. The bacteria known as Propionibacterium acnes are responsible for causing acne. These bacteria create enzymes that dissolve the oil in the skin, and irritate the skin causing inflammation.

Sebum production

Generally, there is a relationship between the amount of sebum produced and the severity of acne. The largest sebaceous glands are located on the face, neck, chest, upper back and upper arms.

Follicle growth

Sometimes follicle walls will grow abnormally and this can cause acne. As well, increased growth of cells can interfere with the follicles and form a plug. This plug gets bigger until it bursts and spreads bacteria on the surface of the skin.

Hormones

Many acne causes come from hormonal change or imbalance. There are hormonal changes during stress, menstruation, pregnancy, stopping/starting birth control pills, menopause, and hormonal disorders.

Androgens: Androgens are produced by the adrenal glands is one of the internal acne causes that stimulate oil glands and oil production. Increased androgen levels leads to more acne.

Stress: Although stress doesn’t directly cause acne, it will aggravate it. This is because stress leads to increased androgen levels, which then affect your sebaceous glands.

Diet

Dermatologists still aren’t 100% sure if what we eat affects acne. There exists an ongoing debate among experts about the role of food.

Prescription drugs and steroids

Certain drugs, including lithium, barbiturates, and steroids such as for muscle building (androgens) are known to cause acne.

Genetics

If your parents had acne, or one of them, there’s a chance you will inherit their complexion. It is now believed that acne can run in the family, but the specific genetic factor has not been discovered.

As you can see, there are many acne causes that can be both independent or interrelated. It is almost impossible to separate out interlinking activities that contribute to acne. Being aware of these acne causes can help you minimize breakouts.
